Lochinver Larder is a well-known destination experience, situated on the most beautiful part of the North Coast 500 touring route in Scotland. Via word-of-mouth over the last 30 years, it is the pies baked lovingly at Lochinver Larder that it is most famous for and there are so many additional ingredients to this wonderful place.
The breathtaking scenery of the Assynt area of Sutherland in North West of Scotland is an 'out-of-this world' landscape with high peaks, glaciated valleys and has to be seen to be believed - once smitten, people are drawn to come back to this remote part of the world.
Lochinver Larder is known for food and drink, and the fame also comes from a product which visitors to the area and now travellers on the NC500 hear about and have to try for themselves. The incredible Lochinver Larder Pies attract a fanatical and loyal fanbase.
A software entrepreneur purchased the pie and bistro business in January, with a vision to amalgamate the Larder with an adjacent pub, to enlarge pie production and build out the Larder as a MUST STOP destination site. Lochinver Larder already encompasses the bakery and shop where guests can see the pies being made, deli, and bistro/café - and is extremely successful, with queues regularly forming before opening time. Development plans for the site are huge to say the least - It includes a pub, restaurant, brewery and smokehouse, further production capability as well as residential "croft" buildings. The Larder is already one of the main employers in the area; and with the planned investment it will grow in this role while remaining very community-centred.
The Lochinver Larder team draws on people born and raised in the town, and combines with new management advisors, experienced in hospitality operations and digital systems.
In order to help shape and deliver the best possible future for this business, the owner of Lochinver Larder is seeking to hire a General Manager to work with the Operations Director and the CEO, being an integral part of the redevelopment of this already very exciting business from the initial creation and planning stages, through to the completion of the expansion project.
The vision for Lochinver Larder is to leverage it's already fantastic reputation for a uniquely incredible product and great service; to cement, further develop and consolidate this reputation as a multi-use, multi-outlet business and THE 'must-do' experience on the NC500 route.

Your New Job
You will be the custodian and leader of The Lochinver Larder and Boathouse and a passionate and hands-on operator - accountable for the smooth running of all aspects of it, be present, engaging guests and the team who will deliver a truly exceptional experience a genuinely warm welcome with efficient and personalised service. You will be innovating how to enhance the experience for customers and team. You will support them, and to enable them to be more efficient, happy and successfu. You are creating great memories for your customers, a growing a fan-base of remote pies-by-post subscriptions and customers returning to Lochinver, where locals say, "If you come, you will be back!".
You will report into the Operations Director, working closely with the CEO, to take the reins of this wonderful business. You will affect things on the ground using your operator's know-how, management skills and leadership. You will have accountability to help drive the business and its people forward and to make decisions on your own with minimal day-to-day supervision while looking to your Ops Director for support to ensure operational excellence, while being involved with every aspect of the future development through the planning and execution stages of this exciting project.
You will be someone who finds the prospect of being given the opportunity an exciting one, high-energy, with ideas to improve the existing model and for the future plans too - Both operationally and strategically.

Throughout the entire project, from the existing business to the future one, there is an enormous amount of support available to you - Both from Operations Director who is a seasoned and passionate operator, as well as the CEO - Who, as a globally-successful serial entrepreneur, is developing an unrivalled group of user interfaces with which you will be able to see in real-time how your actions impact the business, its team members and customers. This enables you to very quickly ascertain how well specific areas of the business are performing and react. You'll be able to tell quickly what works and what doesn't - If you've ever been frustrated by the timescales involved in making changes to something - Even as seemingly simple as an EPOS system - You will be able to make real-world adaptations with almost zero latency following from your technical support as well as having a limitless depth of experience on-tap via the Operations Director.
The Successful Candidate
You believe that fantastic service is something your customers deserve and have experience in motivating your teams to hold the same set of ideals - Guest experience is paramount, as is a happy and efficient team.
You can stand on your own and make operational decisions confidently.
You may not already be a General Manager - You may be someone who is ready to take the next step, but is frustrated with the timescales with regards to your career progression.
You are resilient and adaptable, viewing change as exhilarating. You have your own ideas and find the prospect of shaking up the way things are done a breath of fresh air. You will intuitively know what it takes to safeguard the operation and it's reputation.
You embrace the support available, from the operational and strategic advice from Ops, to the technical side from the CEO.
You have a knowledge of digital systems- labour, stock and ordering, EPOS, booking systems and engagement measures.
You should be a genuine and empathetic leader as well as a talented manager - Able to converse with people in an engaging and encouraging manner - You will be someone who is able to explain ideas clearly, enabling your teams to understand and buy into your vision. You should encourage ideas from your team and foster a great environment in order for the Larder to continue to be an employer of choice and be embedded in the community it serves. You will need to have a real sense of, and affinity for, people and community.
Perhaps you are someone currently working in a high-volume pub or high street branded or other type of restaurant who is feeling constrained in an overly-prescriptive way of working. You may have untapped skills that want to be set free, while still having direction and support to give you the development you need.
